2011 Learning & Literacy Symposium Call for Presenters

The Community Learning Network and Literacy Alberta are pleased to bring you the Literacy & Learning Symposium 2011, October 19-21. This province-wide professional development symposium focuses on literacy and lifelong learning for adults, as tools for positive change.

We are seeking presenters and organizations with creative and innovative methods to engage, strengthen, support and foster literacy and learning as a lifelong process for adult learners, literacy learners, educators and volunteers through interactive workshops, formal presentations and facilitated discussions.  Complete the “Call for Presenters” proposal form and submit online by April 30, 2011. Workshops must educate, inform and provide relevant resources to participants.  More details are available on our website.

Casino Dates Changed- Volunteers needed

Our 2011 casino dates have been moved to June 18/19 (all day Saturday and Sunday) at the Elbow River Casino. We will need approximately 24 volunteers, based on two shifts per weekend. If you or someone you now is able to volunteer, it would be greatly appreciated! Alberta Readers' Choice Awards

Literacy Alberta's Executive Director, Janet Lane, is one of five Book Champions for the 2011 Alberta Readers' Choice Awards. She's been busy reviewing the Top Ten Books, of which each Book Champion will pick one for the Top Five, announced May 1 2011. Stay tuned for more info and visit the ARC Awards site.

2011 Council of the Federation Literacy Award - Put your thinking caps on and get ready to nominate!

Each year, Alberta recognizes the importance of literacy with the Council of the Federation Literacy Award. The call for nominations has not gone out yet, but now is the time to start thinking about a learner you could nominate.  This could be a learner in your program now or a learner who has gone on to other learning and who continues to build on their skills.
